An Ode to a Soul Friend – Junyee
A Major Solo Exhibition by Jeff Dizon
ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
Cascade: Between Motion and Calm Rosenthal Tee works at the intersection of movement and stillness, where nature is not observed as spectacle, but experienced as a state of being. Trained in fashion design and fine art, Tee brings a sensibility rooted in rhythm, texture, and flow—translating the language of fabric, surface, and form into painterly gestures on canvas.
Cascade: Between Motion and Calm draws inspiration from rain as seen from a place of refuge. Looking outward through glass windows during storms, Tee became absorbed by how light refracts through falling water—fracturing into abstract fields of color that feel soothing and meditative, in quiet contrast to the turbulence outside. These moments are not about the storm itself, but about perception: how distance, safety, and stillness allow chaos to transform into calm.
Working in abstract expressionism, Tee applies paint thickly and intuitively, allowing layers to build into organic, flowing patterns. The process itself becomes a form of meditation—an embodied response to moments of uncertainty and intensity brought on by typhoons and heavy rains. Water, in its fluidity and versatility, remains a recurring fascination: a force that is ever-changing, fleeting, and impossible to hold.
Through these works, Tee attempts to preserve what cannot last—the transient patterns formed by rain, light, and movement—capturing them on canvas as quiet, contemplative spaces. Rather than depicting nature’s violence or serenity alone, Cascade invites viewers to reflect on perspective: how calm can exist alongside motion, and how moments of peace are often found in the spaces where we feel most sheltered, present, and aware.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rosenthal Tee (b. 1988, Manila, Philippines) is a Filipino fashion designer and visual artist who completed her MA in Fashion Design Womenswear with honours from Istituto Marangoni in London, United Kingdom in 2013.
As a visual artist, Tee has recently concluded her artist residency at the Linangan Artist Residency under the mentorship of Emmanuel Garibay. Prior to this, she received training in pastel and watercolor under Beth Morris, and in acrylic and oil painting under Fernando Sena through summer short courses at the University of the Philippines.
Tee’s work is a visual narrative centered on the phenomenology of nature. She seeks to express an awareness of her surrounding environment and explore how the viewer situates themselves within the world of nature. The result is an exhilarating display of energy and serenity, marked by her intuitive use of nuanced color in depictions of foliage, sea, and space. Through her work, Tee connects the viewer with interpretable natural formations and lush perspectives.
ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
A Sanctuary under the Cappadocian Rocks draws from a landscape shaped by ancient volcanic eruptions and slowly sculpted by wind and water into forms that feel both natural and otherworldly. Over time, people learned to inhabit this land by carving into its soft stone, creating dwellings, chapels, and hidden spaces where faith and daily life unfolded beneath the surface. As conflict and invasion returned, these carved interiors deepened into underground cities—places of refuge, concealment, and endurance. This series reflects the quiet dialogue between land and humanity, where nature becomes shelter, belief is practiced in stillness, and the earth itself holds memory, protection, and resilience.
Anachronistic — Ramil Villas | Villas disrupts linear time, merging historical references with contemporary elements. His works suggest that memory and history are not fixed, but constantly rewritten through the present.
Pasko: From Murals to Miniatures A Christmas Exhibit by Manuel Baldemor This Christmas season, celebrated Filipino artist Manuel Baldemor presents Pasko: From Murals to Miniatures, an exhibition that celebrates the grandeur of Filipino tradition and the intimacy of personal reflection. The show features murals — rich with Baldemor’s iconic geometry, color, and community spirit — accompanied by a series of tiny, intimate paintings that capture quiet moments of joy, light, and peace. Contrasting in scale yet united in spirit, the exhibition explores how Christmas is both a public celebration and a private reverie — from the sweeping scenes of carolers and parols to the smallest memories that live in our hearts. “Each small work holds the same soul as my murals,” Baldemor shares. “One celebrates the world outside; the other, the peace within.” The miniature works are available for pre-selling exclusively through Art Circle Gallery, each delicately presented for gifting and collecting.
Pasko: From Murals to Miniatures opens at Art Circle Gallery, Greenhills, this November 15 to 24, 2025, with a limited display designed to feel warm, personal, and festive — like stepping into Christmas itself.
“At first, I only wanted to paint a pretty picture. But as I painted, I began to see beyond what my eyes could see— and started painting what my emotions saw.” — Roderick Sta. Ana
For years, Roderick Sta. Ana’s world was one of balance, proportion, and precision—graphic design’s careful geometry and restraint. But beauty, he would later discover, is not always about control. In Florasona, Sta. Ana breaks free from the discipline of design to rediscover the raw, instinctive joy of expression.
Here, flowers are not still lifes nor decorative subjects. They are beings. Each bloom is treated like a portrait—imbued with presence, attitude, even soul. The petals twist, expand, exaggerate, and glow in colors that defy realism. The compositions flirt with caricature, yet beneath the playfulness lies a quiet reverence: an artist listening to what the flowers themselves might be trying to say.
Every piece in Florasona is a conversation between control and surrender, sight and feeling. It asks: What if a flower were not just something to be looked at—but someone to be understood?
Unlike the hyper-realist’s pursuit of surface perfection, Sta. Ana’s canvases reach for what exists beneath it—the unseen personalities of petals and stems, the emotions that bloom between color and form. His works take us back to art, at its truest, which is not about capturing beauty, but about revealing truth through it.
Continuing from the revered stories of our ancestors, “Bathaluman: Awakening” unveils the renewed spirit and vibrant legacy of the Philippine deities that once graced our ancient culture. This exhibition delves deeper into the divine narratives, illustrating how these goddesses and gods mirror our collective essence and resilience. Through surrealistic portraits marked by mystical hues and intricate embellishments, Bernaldo brings to life the timeless allure of these sacred beings, inviting viewers to rediscover the beauty of character and spirit beyond imperfections.
As a continuation of the earlier series, “Bathaluman: Awakening” emphasizes the awakening of cultural pride and spiritual awareness. It challenges us to remember, honor, and revive our rich ancestral stories that have long been hidden in dusty archives and forgotten histories. Bernaldo’s artistry not only pays homage to these deities but also encourages us to embrace our heritage with pride and curiosity.
