Rice Harvest

When National Artist Fernando Amorsolo first created his romanticized paintings of Philippine rural scenes, particularly his famous portrayal of the girl with a banga, he was criticized for depicting unrealistic portrayals of farmers and rural scenarios. However, Amorsolo believed it was important to paint what people needed to see. After the war, he felt that what people needed the most was hope. He believed that if he could convey that message of hope, no matter how small, it could catalyze positive change.
Today, this movement continues to inspire contemporary artists, one of whom is Henry Ordoña. Ordoña’s paintings portray farmers in a jolly and carefree manner, inspiring viewers with a sense of hope and joy.
